Manuel Neuer will guard the German goal at home at the European Championship. According to information from the Sports Information Service (SID), national coach Julian Nagelsmann made his decision three months before the start of the tournament. Neuer’s ‘eternal’ deputy Marc-André ter Stegen (31) has to content himself with the role of reservist again. The sports buzzer was the first to report.
Neuer (37) returns to the German goal on Saturday (9 p.m./ZDF) in Lyon after fifteen months in the international match against France. In the summer he would play his eighth major tournament as a regular goalkeeper. The 2014 world champion played his 117th and final match in a DFB outfit at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. He was then out for a long time due to a broken leg, but last October he was back in goal for FC Bayern for the first time.
