Dive into the price list: Lexus LBX – what does the baby Lexus have to offer?

With the Lexus LBX, Lexus is expanding into the B segment for the first time. By taking a look at the price list, we examine what the new “baby Lexus” has to offer.

Lexus is a strong brand in Asia and America, but in Europe it is still difficult to assert itself against the predominantly German competition. Therefore, the brand is aiming for market expansion. For the first time, the brand is expanding into the B segment, which is so important in Europe. This is done with a compact crossover, a type of high-back sedan with SUV-like features. The new model is called Lexus LBX. These letters stand for “Lexus Breakthrough X(cross)-over”.

Lexus LBX always hybrid

The Lexus LBX is always a hybrid. A 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine, together with an electric motor, provides an output of 100 kW (136 hp). Shifting is always done via a CVT automatic transmission. There is a choice between front or all-wheel drive. The latter primarily ensures slightly better acceleration, although both models sprint to 100 km/h and further up to 170 km/h in just over nine seconds. The difference in official average consumption is also not big: 4.5 l/100 km for RWD and 4.8 l/100 km for AWD.

Prices and features Lexus LBX

The Lexus LBX price list starts at 35,995 euros for the “unnamed” entry-level model with rear-wheel drive. Then there are 17-inch alloy wheels, fabric upholstery (synthetic leather on the steering wheel and lever), a 7-inch TFT screen in the instruments, a 9.8-inch central display for the infotainment (including voice control) and of course the necessary ones Assistance and safety systems.

Incidentally, Lexus focuses less on luxurious equipment variants with the LBX and more on different “atmospheres”. The models available are Elegant (40,495 euros), Emotion (40,995 euros), Relax (41,995 euros) and Cool (42,495 euros). These models have similar features but a different decoration theme. In any case, you have 18-inch alloy wheels, perforated or non-perforated leatherette upholstery, heated steering wheel and front seats, electrically adjustable driver’s seat, mood lighting in the interior (in one or even 64 colors depending on the atmosphere) and some additional assistance systems. The Cool is the only one with real leather upholstery. The entry-level model always has front-wheel drive, the Atmospheres offer either front- or all-wheel drive.

There is also the temporary Original Edition (48,495 euros) as well as the Business Line (35,995 euros) and Business Line Pro (39,995 euros), which are aimed at the business market, but for the sake of simplicity we are omitting them for the time being.

The selection is again huge. We believe that the atmospheres add something to the basic model, but what will it be? We can do without electric seat adjustment, mood lighting in 64 colors or acoustic glass, so we are mainly unsure between elegant and emotional: two-tone body with privacy glass or not? Anyway, it will be the emotion.

Outdoor decoration

Nice surprise: the standard color of the Lexus LBX is a strong yellow. For a different color you pay at least 995 euros. For this amount you can choose between white, three shades of gray and bright dark blue. For 1,395 euros you can choose between the two premium colors: bright red or the copper-colored presentation color. White or gray are boring, we don’t necessarily like the copper tone and you can always choose red or blue. Let’s go crazy and stick with the default color yellow.

Wheel selection depends on the atmosphere, so there is no choice in this area.

Interior decoration

The same applies to the interior. With the chosen Lexus LBX Emotion you always get perforated black leatherette with red stitching. The whole thing may be a bit black, but with the red accents it looks pretty good.

Packages and individual options

Lexus doesn’t offer separate options, but you can choose from six option packages. The Tech Pack (1,495 euros) offers digital instruments, a 12.3-inch central touchscreen, Smart Entry & Start, a wireless smartphone charger, additional USB ports and an electrically operated tailgate. The Premium package (2,495 euros) offers adaptive, steering headlights, LED fog lights and a Smart Digital Key. We actually want both packages, but that’s apparently not possible. Then just the Tech Pack.

The Advanced package (5,128 euros) includes a head-up display, a Mark Levinson premium surround sound system and many additional driving assistants. We want the head-up display and the audio system, but not the assistants. From this point of view, the additional costs are quite significant. Then don’t do it.

That leaves the Travel Pack (1,195 euros) with crossbars and roof box, the Style Pack Interior (395 euros) with floor and luggage mats, the Protection Pack Interior (375 euros) with additional floor mats and protective parts and the Protection Pack Exterior (365 euros). with mud flaps and protective film. Let’s skip that for a moment too.

Assemble the Lexus LBX yourself

In this case, the Tech Pack is our only option selected, bringing the total price to 42,490 euros. Quite a lot of money for a B-segment car. On the other hand, at first glance, the LBX does a pretty good job of transferring the features of larger Lexus models to the B segment. We also discovered this during a driving test.
