No more giant slalom this season for Mikaela Shiffrin (29). The American will not participate in the last giant of the winter in Saalbach-Hinterglemm on Sunday. She announced this on Instagram on Thursday evening.
“I had of course hoped to be able to start competing in giant slalom again this season, but we did not have enough time to make enough progress to be ready to race on Sunday,” the 96-time World Cup winner writes on her profile .
In the slalom
Shiffrin will participate in the slalom on Saturday: “I am really looking forward to competing in another slalom this season on Saturday and then immediately starting the 2024/25 season preparation.” The 29-year-old is now the top favorite to win on Saturday; Last weekend she celebrated a dream comeback with a clear victory in Are (Sd).
The slalom will be the last race of the season for Shiffrin. Starting in the speed races was not an option even before the giant slalom was cancelled. Mikaela Shiffrin suffered a serious fall in Cortina d’Ampezzo (Italy) in January and suffered a lateral ligament injury in her left knee. (bjl)
