Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold (25) took a verbal shot at Manchester City before Sunday’s big match at Anfield. He stressed that every success at Liverpool means more than Manchester City’s trophies.

Manuel Akanji (28) countered after the 1-1 draw in the top match: “I don’t know why he said that. “He didn’t even play,” the Nati star told Yahoo Sports. “He can’t say it because he didn’t win it. That’s all I have to say. If you win three titles within about five years, like last year, then he can speak again.”

City’s defense boss believes Alexander-Arnold wanted to intimidate last year’s Champions League winners. “He probably tried, but we didn’t care,” Akanji says. ‘I don’t think it affected us. In the end, we tried to get on the field and show our performance.”

Liverpool and Manchester City will compete for the Premier League title together with Arsenal this year. City is aiming for the fourth league title in a row. This series would be a first in English football. However, Guardiola’s troops are still in third place behind Arsenal and Liverpool – one point behind.
