As was to be feared after the poor qualifying, Kick-Sauber started the season without World Cup points. But the Chinese Guanyu Zhou (24) showed real fighting qualities in an impressive eleventh place.

Applause for Zhou

In the final rounds there were once again great battles behind the five top teams in the battle for the golden pineapple. But the Chinese were able to leave Magnussen (Haas) and Ricciardo Racing Bulls) close behind them. Applause, even though Zhou was lapped by winner Verstappen with three laps to go.

Teammate Valtteri Bottas (34) finished second to last. The Finn again tore off part of his front wing during a start (this time at Hülkenberg). In the long list of excuses you will probably mention bad luck again.

Failed pit stop

You can’t use that word when it comes to Bottas’ failed pit stop. The left front wheel nut apparently got stuck during the second stop – we lost 56 seconds!

Thanks to Zhou’s eleventh place, Hinwil’s team is surprisingly sixth in the World Cup and flies to Saudi Arabia, where Formula 1 will visit next Saturday. Alpine finished last in the World Cup and showed a pathetic performance with Ocon (17th) and Gasly (18th). In 2023, the French achieved 120 World Cup points.
