FCZ job sharing is expanding

So far, Murat Ural (36) and Umberto Romano (51) have only shared jobs in the sports sector. As for media appearances, until recently only the younger of the two journalists spoke. But that changed with the cup match against Winterthur. Then Romano made his first media appearance. He was also available again to answer questions before the YB competition. In a week it should be Ural’s turn again. At FCZ it is now planned that the two assistant coaches will exchange media appearances.

Celestini works the night shift

Fabio Celestini (48) only got into bed around half past two on Thursday morning. Immediately after the bitter cup-out in the penalty shootout, the FCB coach watched the match against Lugano again on TV. “Especially the first half,” Celestini said. In the main match against Lausanne-Sport on Saturday, his team should not perform as poorly as in the first 45 minutes against the team from Ticino. It is not known at what time the two penalty shooters Fabian Frei (35) and Dominik Schmid (25) fell asleep.

Does the FCL put an exclamation point?

Lucerne and Lugano are only three points ahead. And now there is a direct match on Sunday. “It would be an exclamation point if we can tie Lugano back with a win,” says FCL coach Mario Frick (49). Does he expect Lugano to go into the match with tired legs after the cup clash in Basel? “I don’t think it has a big impact.” A match against the team from Ticino, after which they had a serious argument during the week, is nothing new for the Central Swiss team this season. It’s happened twice already. Lucerne managed to win one match. The second race was lost, even though it should have been won given the circumstances of the game. Now comes the third meeting.

Plenty of choice for Magnin

Ludovic Magnin (44) has been wondering all week whether he should let his gem Alvyn Sanches (21) play from the start in Basel on Saturday. The Swiss U21 international is fit again after his injury and was able to play the last minutes for Simone Pafundi (17) against Winterthur last week. If the Italian super talent had been the decisive factor so far, the question would not arise. But despite his strong technical skills, Pafundi does not seem quite ready for adult football.

No egos in Geneva

“When you sit on the bench, you are happy for those on the field,” explains Timothé Cognat (26) after the victory in the quarter-finals of the Cup against Delémont (2-0). Could the Frenchman’s attitude be the big secret behind the series of successes in Geneva? Coach René Weiler (50) has managed to form a group in which egos are at least apparently ignored. The Servette coach has also solved the luxury problem of having two strong goalkeepers well so far. The rotation between Joël Mall (32) and Jérémy Frick (30) seems to be working.

Yverdon is looking for Tasar’s replacement

The cries of pain that Varol Tasar (27) uttered in the match against Basel still cause shivers in the Stade Municipal. The injury-related absence of the German, who has been Yverdon’s best player so far this season, is a real problem for coach Alessandro Mangiarratti (45). Will it be a chance for Christopher Lungoyi (23) to redeem himself? Or will captain William Le Pogam (30) be moved forward one position? Another case that raises questions is Mathias Olesen (22). The Luxembourg international, rented from 1. FC Köln, is struggling with a virus that has been weakening him for weeks.
