When Andrej Rublev fell behind 5:6 in the deciding set of his semi-final of the ATP 500 tournament in Dubai against Alexander Bublik, the Russian’s fuses blew.
Rublev verbally attacks a linesman in Russian because he disagrees with his decision. After several minutes of discussion with other match officials, chair umpire Miriam Bley eventually intervened and disqualified Rublew.
Bublik protects Rublev
The 26-year-old previously claimed he spoke English all the time and never said anything in Russian. Opponent Bublik also defended him. “I’m ready to keep playing,” said the Kazakh.
In the end, everything doesn’t help, Rublev is disqualified and has to give up the semi-finals. Bublik, meanwhile, advances to the final and meets Frenchman Ugo Humbert. (SDA/bjl)
