The armed robbery on Van Bommel’s house fails, the perpetrator runs away

Mark van Bommel escaped an armed robbery on Monday evening. According to Belgian media, including Het Nieuwsblad and Het Gazet van Antwerpen, the perpetrator had targeted his car. A man was waiting for the Royal Antwerp coach in the parking garage under his house.

Royal Antwerp FC spokesman confirms the robbery of Van Bommel. “We will give Mark all the support he needs,” he told NOS.

Van Bommel would have seen the robber approach with a gun and a flashlight while driving his car into the parking garage. He then attempted to exit the garage but collided with another parked car. Then the alarm went off. The robber then decided to flee.

Antwerp police spokesman Wouter Bruyns: “No one was injured, our teams have investigated the area, but a suspect could not be found.”

Robberies on soccer players

It’s not the first time someone from the football world has been mugged by criminals. Ajax player Dusan Tadic was attacked by two robbers at his home in Amsterdam South in July. Two suspects have since been arrested.

Criminals came to then-PSV striker Eran Zahavi in May last year when he was playing a game. The Israeli attacker’s wife and children were at home at the time and were the victims of an armed robbery.

Recently PSV player Ki-Jana Hoever was also robbed when he was present at the game against Feyenoord.
