Does he do it or doesn’t he do it? It is about FCL star Max Meyer (28) and whether he will extend his expiring contract. The Lucerne fans slowly want clarity about whether he will stay after the summer or not. In any case, on Instagram they have been calling on him for some time to remain a blue and white man.

Shortly before Christmas, it looked like Meyer’s decision would come in January. It is now mid-February. But there is no news. FCL sports director Remo Meyer (43) confirms this to Blick: “We are still in good and open discussions with Max and hope that we can announce a decision as soon as possible.”

Several reasons for hesitation

It is an open secret that the FCL wants to extend Meyer’s contract today. The club already made an attempt months ago. However, the player returned the offer in the fall without signing. When asked by Blick, his advisor Roger Wittmann (63) explained this by saying that they wanted to take their time when it came to the future. In the meantime, the offer is back on the player’s table.

But Meyer continues to wait. There are several reasons for this. Firstly, as a free agent, he can freely decide where he will continue his career. Secondly, there is the temptation to try again in a bigger league like the Bundesliga. Third, at age 28, he’s probably about to sign his last major contract.

Only the FCL still believed in him

Whatever Meyer decides: Lucerne will always be the place where he found the joy of football again after difficult years. Under coach Mario Frick (49) he was able to play freely again. His gratitude towards the club is great. He emphasizes this at every opportunity. Even though he hasn’t always been happy with his substitutions lately. Just like his girlfriend when she recently shouted loudly ‘stupid or something’ towards the dugout.

Frick has recently explained several times that Meyer’s importance to the team remains great. In the long run he would certainly be a leader in Lucerne. Especially because another top player, Ardon Jashari (21), will disappear permanently this summer. It would be all the more painful for the FCL if they were to lose Meyer to a free agent. He finally got a podium again when no one believed in him anymore.
