Lewis Hamilton is taking on a new challenge.

On Thursday morning, the rumor mill suddenly boiled over. British media report that seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamitlon (39) will drive for Ferrari from 2025.

What is initially a rumor soon becomes reality. Early in the afternoon, BBC Sport reported that Mercedes boss Toto Wolff (52) had summoned the entire team for a meeting. This will take place at 3:00 PM CET. And has only one reason: to announce Hamilton’s move. In the evening the Silver Arrows will appear: Lewis Hamilton uses an exit clause in his contract and will switch to the Italian racing team after next season.

There have been rumors for some time, but also denials

The Brit will drive exclusively for Mercedes this year and – instead of giving up – will once again take on the really big challenge. This comes as a big surprise. It was previously believed that the 103-time GP winner’s Mercedes contract would continue beyond 2024 next year. But it appears to be just a contractually agreed option that Hamilton does not accept.

The Briton has repeatedly emphasized in recent years that he is not interested in a switch to Ferrari. But now he is actually leaving Mercedes for Maranello. The Briton won his debut title in the McLaren and moved up to the Silver Arrow in 2014, completing a string of victories and a further six world titles. Now there is one more season with the Mercedes before this era comes to an end. (beer)
