Blick: Pauli Well, her daughter has been racing in the World Cup for 16 years. She is a world champion, Olympic champion and has 41 World Cup victories to her name. What do these facts mean to you?
Pauli Good: As parents, Gabriella and I are extremely proud of everything Lara does. And she can be proud of herself. It’s incredible that after all these years she still feels so much joy and desire to ski.

How do you explain that?
Fun always came first. Even when Lara was still a girl. Then the good results came and we tried to make it even better. At a certain point you are in the ski circus and you step on the gas even more.

Many people died in Cortina and some were seriously injured. At Gut-Behrami, every journey looked playful – agree?
She already feels the fatigue. Yet she rode sensationally – especially in the Super-G.

Several drivers seemed restless. That was never the case with Gut-Behrami, was it?
The experience makes a big difference. Lara knows the situations and how to deal with interruptions. She then builds a protective shield around herself.

Your daughter complained about the pressure of density in the ski circus. “At some point you’re going to be exhausted at first,” she said.
I understand exactly what she means.

But she found a way to deal with it?
Absolute. She is no longer on social media, which gives her peace of mind. Lara doesn’t read anything about herself either. She can also switch very well between races and doesn’t just think about skiing.

Mikaela Shiffrin is injured, Gut-Behrami is only 195 points behind her in the overall World Cup. Is the big crystal ball a problem now?
It all happens so quickly: today you are at the front and tomorrow it is already over. A lot can still happen.

How long will your daughter continue to drive?
She currently has another winter in mind after this season.

But the 2026 Olympic races will take place in Cortina, where she has already won so much.
It depends on the results and your health. A lot can happen.
