It is known that FC Zurich has had some castling among its young talent of late. Under the leadership of sports director Milos Malenovic (39), the city club wants to implement uniform structures from juniors to professional teams.
All teams must train in a similar way, technically, tactically and substantively, and similar game scenes must be practiced. The goal: to help the FCZ talents adapt as best as possible to the level of the age groups. And to make it easier for them to make the jump to the first team at some point.
Malenović in front
And because this new objective comes from the very top, the team leader gets to work on it himself. Malenovic introduced himself to the U teams from the start, explained the new FCZ concept and showed what the club had in mind.
How do you want to attack the opponent? How do you print even more effectively? This concerns data that was personally provided to the young people by the team leader.
What is special is that the team leader does this himself. In other professional companies, juniors are often seen as aloof and further away from the action. Not so at FCZ. But Malenovic doesn’t do everything alone. At the FCZ, the development plan is also developed and implemented together with the junior coaching teams, and is then passed on to the juniors themselves.
Juniors impressed
The fact that the sports director is personally concerned with these issues impresses the FCZ talents. Ricardo Moniz, a man who has developed talents and players in his career as a youth promoter for various Red Bull teams, has also been installed for the new philosophy.
Moniz, who is a sports developer and recently also coach of the U21 (he was also head coach), is considered a supporter of ‘total football’, as Ajax Amsterdam once launched or Eindhoven practices it and the FCZ also wants that. It is a game system that combines total ball control with aggressive pressing.
