The Swiss halfpipe snowboarders have to do without their team leader Jan Scherrer at the home World Cup in Laax. The Olympic bronze medalist in Beijing is out due to a gastrointestinal infection.
For Scherrer, the new year begins as the old one ended. In mid-December, the 29-year-old from Toggenburg had to call in sick due to the second World Cup stop this winter in Copper Mountain. At the season opener a week earlier in China, the World Cup third place had already visibly weakened and finished 18th, below expectations. (SDA)
