If you search for WEF-related articles on the social media platform, WEF founder Klaus Schwab (85) comes up. He sits quietly next to Federal President Viola Amherd (61). The duo leaves the stage with their eyes downcast, and then the broadcast supposedly stops.

The video is fake and not a very well prepared video. It was produced by Danish phenomenon Damon Imani, who lives in Denmark. He has several hundred thousand followers. Imani is known for its satirical content. After the first spoof, he distributed a second video purportedly apologizing to WEF elites, with a black eye. Again, full of many swear words.

The critical viewer immediately recognizes the fake. Problem: Video is spreading like wildfire across X and other networks. Consciously or unconsciously, the satirical context has been lost. For example, Swiss right-wing extremist Ignaz Bearth (39) shares it on his account X without clearly stating that it is fake or satire.

Thanks to artificial intelligence, everyone becomes a producer of fake news

According to the WEF’s global risk report, misinformation is the biggest risk the world will face in the next two years. The reason for this is that elections will be held in many countries from the USA to India and Indonesia in 2024. Nearly half of the world’s population has been called to the polls and is at risk of being exposed to disinformation during the election campaign.

Especially since artificial intelligence (AI) has made generating misinformation like the fake WEF video a breeze. The WEF has been one of the most popular victims of conspiracy theorists only since the advent of artificial intelligence. But when asked, WEF organizers said the fake news was “supported by synthetic content”.

Klaus Schwab and the “Great Reset”

The pandemic had already accelerated fake news. Since then, the conspiracy theory has become widespread again, according to which WEF founder Klaus Schwab (85) wants to establish a new world order for the elite through his forum. It is a symptom of eroding trust in political and economic leaders.

Advert

It was not for nothing that Federal President Viola Amherd (61) appealed to the conscience of the WEF elite in her opening speech: “Part of the population gathered here does not trust us.” And it is not for nothing that the theme of this year’s annual meeting in Davos is “Rebuilding trust”. The latest viral fake video about the WEF proves there’s still a long way to go.
