At the latest after Marco Odermatt’s incredible ride to the new best time, the finish area in Wengen is a madhouse. But then everything becomes completely quiet shortly before 1 p.m.
Norwegian Aleksander Aamodt Kilde (31), who was already in poor health before the race, went to the finish S with problems and promptly lost control of his ride in the last corner. He flies full speed into the safety nets, is thrown back onto the slope and finally stops just before the finish.
Already the third serious fall of the weekend
It’s a terrible sight for the ski fans and the riders who have already completed their run. Traces of blood can be seen on the snow – according to SRF, cuts are suspected on the Norwegian, who is also said to be bleeding from his face. Even Marco Odermatt has to turn away several times because of the scenes.
For the third time during an otherwise perfect ski weekend, the rescue helicopter has to be called in the Bernese Oberland. On Thursday, Swiss Marco Kohler (26) seriously injured his knee after a fall and had to be taken away. On Friday, Frenchman Alexis Pinturault (32) had a serious fall.
Kilde’s fall and rescue caused a longer interruption of the Lauberhorn descent. Only after almost half an hour did the race resume. There is no further information yet about Kilde’s condition.
