‘I’m leaving this mess’: ‘Twilight’ star Kristen Stewart threatens to end her career to pursue her dream

After celebrating her definitive breakthrough with the “Twilight” films, Kristen Stewart – like her “Twilight” colleague Robert Pattinson – made an extensive foray into the indie sector. Thanks to strong performances in films such as ‘The Clouds of Sils Maria’, ‘Still Alice’ and ‘Personal Shopper’, she has increasingly established herself as a celebrated young actress – resulting in a 2022 Oscar nomination for Best Actress for her role as Princess Diana ended up in the biopic “Spencer.”

Building on this success, Stewart is keen to take things one step further and, after directing several short films and music videos, finally make her feature film directorial debut. She recently announced how serious she is about this in an interview with the American industry newspaper more than clear in which they even threatened to give up her career if nothing came of her directorial dream.

Directorial debut is a top priority for Stewart

“I’m leaving this mess. I won’t make another movie until I make this movie [O-Ton: „I won’t make a-fucking-nother movie until I make this movie“]she explained and added provocatively: “I can’t wait for my agents to read this.”

These very explicit words undoubtedly reflect a good dose of frustration, as Stewart has been trying in vain for five years to get her planned directorial work financed, despite her reputation as an actress. The project is ‘The Chronology Of Water’, an adaptation of the memoir ‘Written in Water’, in which author Lidia Yuknavitch mainly describes the struggle to find identity as a bisexual woman amidst everyday ideals of beauty and self-expression.

But even if the plan fails and Stewart really goes to extremes by giving up acting (which we hope not), there will still be plenty of supply of the in-demand star for the foreseeable future. With the thriller and science fiction love stories ‘Love Lies Bleeding’ and ‘Love Me’, the 33-year-old will present two particularly promising new projects at the renowned indie film festival in Sundance in January 2024. The road trip comedy ‘Sacramento’ has also already been adapted into a film. However, the three films have not yet appeared in cinemas.
