The New Year could not be celebrated at Ulissi for a sad reason: Italian cyclist Diego Ulissi (34), teammate of Marc Hirschi (25) in the UAE Emirates team, and his wife Arianna lost their unborn child.
“Unfortunately, after a check-up with the doctor this afternoon, things did not go as they should. Our little girl has flown into heaven,” writes Ulisse’s wife Arianna in her Instagram story and then thanks the encouraging messages: “Despite the great sadness, we thank everyone for the kind messages we have received.”
Recently, at Christmas, the family announced that they were expecting their third child. “We are so happy to announce that we are becoming parents for the third time!” it said on Instagram. Now the hard loss.
Ulissi has won several stages in his career, including eight in the Giro d’Italia. He is also a multiple junior world champion in road racing. (par)
