It’s “Timo Time” again in New Jersey. Finally!

After weeks full of low blows and criticism, Swiss NHL star Timo Meier is back on track. Nothing proves this better for a striker than the goal percentage: the 27-year-old from Herisau AR has scored four goals in the last five games.

Meier’s regained strength is one of the reasons why his New Jersey Devils are undefeated in three games and have found their way back into the battle for the play-off places. But before that, the striker had to overcome a low point.

Coach Ruff’s message

Timo Meier has a hard time, especially in December. After a seven-game break due to an injury, there is less and less ice time for the attacker. In addition, Meier is no longer used in the same line as the Devils’ top shots Jack Hughes and Nico Hischier.

The Devils had fallen into a hole in November, losing seven of ten games. But then the revival follows – without Timo Meier really being able to contribute much to it. It’s a moment when New Jersey coach Lindy Ruff, 63, emphasizes his team’s willingness to do the dirty work and earn hard-fought victories. A reference to Meier’s address?

Meier is all about self-confidence

If it was a message, it came: the knot would be broken shortly before Christmas. First Timo Meier scored against Edmonton, two days later he scored a brace to win Detroit. “We really wanted to leave the ice with a smile,” Meier said afterwards. “Now the holidays will feel better.”

“It took a while after the injury, but it’s getting better now,” Meier said of his nine-game goalless drought. And he makes no secret of the fact that this phase was gnawing at him: “I’m just trying to get my self-confidence back with a lot of work.”

The next opportunity for a confidence boost comes Sunday evening. Then Meier and the Devils are guests of the Boston Bruins, one of the top teams this year. It would be the perfect moment for “Timo Time” again.
