Luis Rubiales is in the pillory again.

It was the major scandal that overshadowed the Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand last summer. Luis Rubiales (46), the Spanish federation boss at the time, kissed player Jennifer Hermoso (33) on the mouth unsolicited at the awards ceremony after the World Cup final.

Now, more than three months after Ruabiales’ resignation, a new accusation has become public. Again it is about a kiss that Rubiales is said to have violated. The official report of FIFA, in which the ‘Rubiales case’ was written up in detail, contains a statement by the English association president Debbie Hewitt (60).

Multiple players affected?

The English boss’s statement states, among other things, that Rubiales first shook hands with every Spanish and English player at the awards ceremony. He then “gently touched some players on the arm, grabbed and caressed” some of them on the face. This happened to, among others, the English Laura Coombs (32).

With her compatriot – Lucy Bronze (32) – Rubiales apparently took an even more offensive approach. As Hewitt says, the Spaniard kissed the Englishwoman on the cheek. The player then appeared irritated and disturbed, but reacted unobtrusively to the incident.

Rubiales defends himself

Rubiales need not fear further consequences from the latest findings. However, this puts the Spaniard’s actions in an even darker light.

Rubiales says Hewitt “intentionally and negligently” omitted certain facts to harm him. ‘It’s all a lie she tells. She is a hypocrite,” the statement said. He will now consider legal action to take action against the “false statements”. (par)
