Blick: Beat Forster, why are you resigning?
Defeat Forster: Because for me the time has come to draw the line at the end of the season. Ultimately, it was a process that has now come to an end. I see the end of my street and look back with joy.

You will be 41 in February, is your body slowly starting to break down?
No, physically I still feel good. And the joy of ice hockey is still there. But the more I thought about it, the more I felt it was right to quit at the end of the season. This is not a decision I made overnight, but rather one that has gradually grown within me.

Are you not resigning because Biel has no longer promised you a new contract?
No, I have never spoken to sports director Martin Steinegger about next season. We originally agreed that we would look at this in early 2024. But now it is already clear to me that I want to resign and that is why I have informed Steinegger of this. It’s not about vanity, about not wanting to expose myself to the risk of no longer getting a contract. The point is that retiring at the end of the season suits me perfectly.

Biel has had some problems this season and is currently only in 11th place. I don’t think with a finish like that you want to leave the team far from the top 10 and with no chance of making the play-offs.
No rather not. I hope for a better farewell and am convinced that I will receive one. We won’t finish qualifying between 11 and 14!
