Master or not? It’s not the question Servette’s coach René Weiler asks himself every morning when he gets up. “I don’t participate in the stories that you have to do,” he says after his team’s strong performance, just three days (!) after the last excellent European performance against AS Roma (1:1). But it’s the question that comes to mind when a team is in the lead for fifty minutes.

Weiler’s stacks are of course deep. Like any other coach would do. «We don’t have the level of YB. When I see that the Berners have four or five injuries and can then bring in Jean-Pierre Nsame and Saidy Janko… I am very happy with my team. But it’s just not the same level even if we could keep up with YB.”

Lauper feels the confidence of Geneva – that’s all

Weiler continued: “I am very happy with the performance. Even though we could score two or three goals before half time. I’m glad we’re making so much progress. We know where we come from and where Servette was a few years ago.” But then he says bluntly: “It has already been seen that we have caught up and that this will have to be taken into account in the future.”

The question arises: how do you define the future? Tomorrow the day after tomorrow? End of the season? In three years? «Servette tried to play along. You could see that they have self-confidence because they won victories,” said Sandro Lauper, who made his comeback after his two suspensions with a red card, and described the guest’s performance in the once again full Wankdorf somewhat defensively. He saw a dominant Servette At least not, but one that took advantage of the mistakes of the Yellow Blacks.

Goalkeepers speak out

And there were. Starting with goalkeeper Racioppi and the collective deep sleep during Bedia’s opening goal, for example. The top chances of Bedia and Antunes were also unthinkable without Bern’s mistakes. But Servette leaves everyone behind, so Ganvoula’s compensation follows some logic. Because now YB Saidy Janko and Jean-Pierre Nsame are there and Meschack Elia rotates from the wing. The game has been completely turned around. The only thing: Nsame misses all four of his top chances. “I would have liked to score the goal,” says the former Servettien: “But they had a goalkeeper there…”

An old friend of Nsame. Jérémy Frick, who incredibly saves a header from the French-Cameroonian. A “cool” parade? A “beautiful” parade, he answers. “What I always have in mind when I play against YB: my old friend JP will not score against me!” Mission accomplished. “And anyway, I prefer to talk about our brutally good first half. Only we have to score more than one goal. The match was great overall.” So Frick still needs his favorite word…

And what about the subject of master’s candidates? Frick: “It’s still too early to say anything. The fact is: we have played an incredible number of games this season and are very tired. And it was terribly cold.” Even if Nsame ended up brutally inciting the Geneva veteran.
