Although Toyota is one of the leaders in hybrid technology, the brand has long turned a blind eye to the all-electric car. Now the brand has changed course and is working on an EV model series consisting of six BEVs. As a B-segment, this Toyota Urban SUV is an entry-level vehicle.
The Japanese showed the compact SUV during a Toyota event in Brussels. Although the model looks almost ready for production, it is actually still a concept car. Mirrors, wheels and roof spoiler reveal that it is still a study model. The production car and further details about the Japanese will be revealed in 2024.
Toyota Urban SUV as a Volvo EX30 competitor
The model will be available in front- and all-wheel drive. In terms of size, the electric car is at the top of the B segment. The model is 4.30 meters long, 1.82 meters wide and 1.62 meters high. This makes it slightly higher and longer than the Volvo EX30, with which the Japanese want to compete. Another competitor is the Peugeot e-2008.

Toyota also speaks of a “flexible interior that can be adjusted to provide more legroom for rear passengers or more luggage space.” In other words: the back seat is on rails.
Two battery packs in an electric car
Toyota hasn’t released much information about the Urban SUV yet. It is said that you can choose between two batteries. Of course, these differ in size, price and range.

We don’t yet know how big these batteries are. It’s clear that the Toyota Urban SUV wants to compete with the Volvo EX30, which is expected to be one of the top sellers of 2024.
The Volvo is available with a 51 kWh battery or a 69 kWh battery. The range is 344 kilometers and 471 kilometers respectively. The Swedish-Chinese electric car has a competitive starting price of 36,795 euros and around 41,500 euros for the extended range variant. We wouldn’t be surprised if the Toyota Urban SUV had similar specs.
