This scene can be seen matchday after matchday: a player scores a goal, takes off his jersey in celebration and receives a yellow card from the referee. But what happened in early November in the match between TJ Sokol Libochovany and TJ Sokol Upohlavy has probably never happened before in football history.

It is the 82nd minute in this match of the tenth and therefore lowest Czech league. When Martin Blizil of the away team scored the 1:6 goal, there was no stopping him. All kickers, including substitutes, take off their shirts. Referee David Mojzis does not hesitate for long and shoots 16 times – in words: sixteen times! – the yellow card. The thirty spectators present can hardly believe it.

Even the referee had to laugh

Research at Sokol Upohlavy. How did this crazy action come about? ‘We hadn’t scored a goal for a while. Our chairman, who is also a player himself, had this idea during half time. We all agreed then that the next time we scored a goal we would take our shirts off.”

The referee was just doing his job, Sokol Upohlavy continues. “When he showed one player after another the yellow card, he had to laugh himself. He also thought the action was funny.”

5 beers per yellow card

Normally they are an honest team, even if they get one or two warnings regularly. «We are a fairly old team, our average age is 42 years. That’s why we are sometimes a little too slow and we have to make do with fouls.”

When Sokol Upohlavy reduced the score to 2:6 in the 86th minute of the said match, everything continued to go on. Fortunately, otherwise there would have been sixteen deportations in one fell swoop. Despite the defeat, the evening after the match was quite enjoyable. “Anyone who receives a yellow card from us has to spend five beers in the local pub. The party was quite interesting…’
