Union supporters gathered in white hoodies in downtown Naples. Then there were violent riots.

Fan riots of the worst kind in Naples. About 2,000 Berlin fans gathered in the city center on Tuesday evening, wearing white hoodies. According to consistent media reports, there was a riot and a confrontation with police during the subsequent fan march. The result was eleven arrests.

The group, which according to the Ansa news agency also included Gladbach fans (who maintain a rivalry with the Neapolitans), allegedly marched through the city center, used smoke pots and fireworks and damaged shop windows and car windscreens. A confrontation with the police was literally sought. Tear gas was used to control the riots.

Union, which suffered its twelfth defeat in a row this weekend, has a difficult away match against SSC Napoli on Wednesday evening (6.45 pm in the Blick live ticker). There were no points for Urs Fischer’s side from the first three games; another defeat would seal the departure from the premier class.

In March they were Frankfurt fans

Authorities warned visiting fans of the increased risk of danger when traveling to Naples. Berlin fans were advised not to wear Iron Men merchandise and to avoid remote areas of the city. Last March there was already a confrontation with the Italian police and German fans. At the time, fans from Frankfurt traveled to Naples despite the ticket ban. (dti)
