Big bad luck for Liechtenstein ski racer Nico Gauer (27): the new season starts on October 28. But without Gauer. As he says personally, he is currently recovering and will miss the first part of the World Cup winter. The reason for this is a hernia that was diagnosed in early October.
Particularly bitter: for Gauer this is the second sliding disc this year. And in exactly the same place. In the spring he had to undergo surgery. After the rehabilitation and summer training, which he completed with the Swiss Ski B team, Gauer felt ready to attack again. But nothing comes of that now.
Best result in Aspen
“My goal now is to get the injury healed without surgery, even though that will take more time. “In the long run, however, this is the better and more sustainable option,” Gauer writes on his personal website. The exact downtime is currently unclear, but he will certainly miss the first phase of the season.
In March, Gauer achieved the best result of his career in the Super-G in Aspen: the Liechtensteiner took 6th place. It was not only the best placement of his career, but also the only World Cup points he has managed to score so far. (sbe)
