A big bang in Serie A: Alejandro “Papu” Gomez (35), the 2022 Argentine world champion, is given a two-year doping ban. The Spanish online platform ‘Revelo’ reported this on Friday.
It was only at the end of September that Gomez signed with AC Monza as a free transfer player in Serie A. Before that, he played for Sevilla FC until the summer. It is still unclear whether an appeal will be lodged and the ban will be reduced, the report continues.
Medicinal syrup?
In November 2022, he tested positive for an illegal substance after a doping test during training at Sevilla. Gomez himself claimed at the time that he had simply consumed a medicinal syrup from his sons when he felt unwell.
