One person at FCZ is particularly happy that the new sports director will be introduced on Monday: coach Bo Henriksen (48). The Dane has fulfilled the task of sports director since the departure of Marinko Jurendic (45) in a double mandate, but says: “I would rather be on the field ten times than on the phone.”
This is also visible in the strong rise of the FCZ in the Super League. As a coach, Henriksen wants to win matches and relies mainly on routine. At the same time, as a sports director, think about the future? Difficult. Talents such as Junior League, the Reichmuth brothers or even Derby Bledian Krasniqi are not taken into account.
So who will take back Henriksen’s second job and bring balance to the roster planning? FCZ boss Ancillo Canepa (70) is still keeping secrets about the end of the month-long vacancy; he always says, “I don’t comment on names.”
Malenovic always wanted to become a sports director
Above all, it is a name that can still be heard everywhere as a new team leader, regardless of which insiders Blick talks to about the FCZ: player agent Milos Malenovic (38).
The ex-professional already works for Zurich. After Jurendic’s departure, Canepa brought him in as an external advisor to analyze the club’s structures and internal processes. The agent is already part of the sports committee, Malenovic’s word already carries a lot of weight at FCZ, such as the last-minute rejection of Admir Mehmedi (32).
Blick heard that Malenovic had expressed his desire to become a sports director at a club years ago. But that would require him to give up his lucrative consulting business. Lo and behold: this has already happened. His agency “Soccer Mondial” was merged into the company “VPA Sports International”.
As a result of the merger, the industry giant now has an office in Switzerland. In the future it will apparently be managed by Malenovic’s former employee and ex-GC sports director Paul Bollendorff (43).
Also a Bayern scout part of the external solution?
On paper, Malenovic is free for a new job in football. At the FCZ it would be a job that would also fit better with life as a father of two children. Sports director instead of the stressful jet-setting life as a player’s agent, which, according to Malenovic’s own statements, means about 300 flights a year? Who knows.
However, blue expert Rolf Fringer does not believe in the Malenovic variant. The ex-Nati coach is thinking of an internal solution. But FCZ head scout Thomas Bickel (59), head of sport until 2020, will not make a comeback in this position.
But Malenovic is unlikely to take over on his own. According to Blue, Bayern’s young chief scout Florian Zahn (41) will also be in the Canepa box for the derby. From the world club to the FCZ? Absolutely conceivable, since Heinz Moser’s position as head of development is also vacant in Zurich and this would mean much more authority than a small cog in the colossus in Munich.
