Elise Chabbey narrowly missed medals in the road race at the European Championships.

Elise Chabbey and Marlen Reusser achieved 6th and 13th place in Hoogeveen after Mischa Bredewold’s victory. Bredewold benefits from the strong teamwork of the home team from the Netherlands. The 23-year-old can attack in the last loop. The top group, to which the two Swiss women also belong, cannot reach an agreement.

The route takes you six times over the artificially created Col du VAM, a 43-meter-high waste mountain. It consists of three demanding climbs; At the end of the course there is a 150 meter long pavé sector with no less than a 15 percent gradient. The destination is also there. Bredewold saved the victory by crossing the finish line three seconds ahead of her compatriot Lorena Wiebes. Third place goes to the Belgian Lotte Kopecky.

Chabbey, who started the race in a group of three, had to pull away on the final climb and lost seven seconds. Reusser no longer sprints for the medals and loses half a minute. (SDA/mab)
