Olympique Marseille is divorcing Spanish coach Marcelino (58). The decision is said to have been preceded by threats from the fan scene against the management of the traditional French club during a meeting early this week.
In a statement, the club complained about an “unfortunate” situation and said Marcelino and his team could not continue their work. The decision had no sporting reasons.
OM undefeated in the French championship
Marcelino has only been in charge of Marseille since early July 2023. He previously coached at Athletic Bilbao, Valencia, Villarreal and Sevilla FC. In 2019 he won the Spanish Cup with Valencia.
Olympique Marseille is currently fourth in Ligue 1 (just ahead of Paris Saint-Germain) with two wins and three draws. Last Sunday, the nine-time champions of France drew 0-0 at home against Toulouse.
