The 15th stage of the Vuelta will be the prey of the Portuguese Rui Costa. The 36-year-old world champion from 2013 won after 158 kilometers from Pamplona to Lekunberri in a three-man sprint ahead of German Lennard Kämna and Colombian Santiago Buitrago.
The following riders from the original leading group of 15, which was decisively blown up on the last climb, reached the finish led by the very active winner of the previous day Remco Evenepoel, two seconds behind, the contenders for the overall victory arrived around three minutes in Lekunberri later.
Jumbo trio at the top
So there were no shifts at the top of the general classification. The American Sepp Kuss still has a lead of 1:37 and 1:44 minutes respectively over his Jumbo teammates Primoz Roglic and Jonas Vingegaard.
Monday is the second rest day of the Tour of Spain. The next day, the 16th stage covers 120 kilometers from Liencres Playa to Bejes over largely flat terrain. However, the last five kilometers include approximately 200 meters of elevation with a gradient of up to 14 percent to the finish. This is followed by two more stages with arrivals in the mountains.
