Serbian volleyball players in World Cup final size too big for Brazil

The Serbian volleyball players have extended the world championship title in Apeldoorn. In the final, the number three of last year’s Olympic Games with 26:24, 25:22, 25:17 was too strong for Brazil, which was in the final for the fourth time and missed gold just as often.

In the first two sets, Brazil, which leads the world rankings, was initially on the right side of the scoreboard. In the first act, Serbia (FIVB-3) came aside with 12:12. At 24:22 it lost two set points, but then struck again.

Undefeated

In the second set, Serbia converted from 14-16 to 20-16. Brazil bounced back (22:22) but Serbia, with the help of star Tijana Boskovic (24 points in total), were cool and ruthless. That broke the Brazilian resistance. It was unbeaten Serbia’s twelfth win in a row at the World Cup in the Netherlands and Poland.

Serbia became world champions for the first time in 2018 by beating Italy in the final. This country ended the tournament with a win. In the duel for bronze, the European champion was 3-0 too strong for the Olympic champion USA.

The Netherlands were eliminated in the second group stage, thus falling short of the goal of at least reaching the quarterfinals.
