Cheers from Tadej Pogacar: the Slovenian wins the penultimate stage of the Tour de France.

Tadej Pogacar wins the penultimate stage of the Tour de France, a route through the Vosges with 3500 altimeters divided over six climbs. The Slovenian triumphs in the sprint against the Austrian Felix Gall and Jonas Vingegaard.

Leader Vingegaard passed the last test and can enjoy the ride to Paris on Sunday in the yellow jersey. The Dane will win the most prestigious prize in cycling for the second time after 2022.

The group, with Vingegaard and Pogacar, takes the final climb to Le Markstein one minute behind, after some climbing specialists had previously tried their luck on Petit Ballon. Pogacar attacks first. With Vingegaard and Gall he quickly catches up. The trio distinguishes itself, but does not harmonize. At the peak 5 km before the finish, the brothers Yates Adam and Simon are also on top again. In the battle for the stage victory, Pogacar is clearly the strongest sprinter of the quintet.

Farewell to local heroes

Local hero Thibaut Pinot has one last big performance of the tour. On the penultimate climb he got a small lead in front of his front door on his last Grand Tour. Thousands of spectators line the track and cheer on the 33-year-old.

On Sunday on the Champs Elysees in Paris, Dane Jasper Philipsen is determined to win the fifth day of this year’s tour after a small breakaway group on Thursday and Friday thwarted the clearly strongest sprinter in the field, one by one. (SDA)
