Out in the first round: Unpleasant premiere for Ritschard in Gstaad

Alexander Ritschard has to admit defeat in the first round in Gstaad.

A year ago, Ritschard lost 6-3, 6-3 to Munar in Gstaad. The Swiss could raise hopes, because the Spaniard was recently looking for form and lost last week in Braunschweig to the Dane August Holmgren, the number 387 in the world.

A nice series ended for Alexander Ritschard. In his fourth participation in a main field of an ATP tour event, he failed the starting round for the first time. A year ago he beat the Portuguese Joao Sousa in Gstaad, this season he also beat the Spaniard Pablo Andujar in Marseille and the German Jan-Lennard Struff in Munich.

Ritschard acted too inconsistently in Gstaad. Brilliant phases were merrily interspersed with weaker moments. In the second set Ritschard managed to make a re-break against Munar (to 2:3) and immediately gave up serving a fourth time. (SDA)
