Emmen and Volendam are the same, making Vitesse closer

FC Emmen and FC Volendam drew 1-1 in Drenthe. As a result, the number one and two from last season’s first division side Vitesse, who visit SC Cambuur on Saturday, cede last place in the Eredivisie, at least temporarily.

Both teams had lost five of their last six games and were looking for victory in the cellar cracker. FC Emmen manager Dick Lukkien made some notable changes. Mickey van der Hart was preferred in goal over Eric Oelschlägel and striker Ricohairo Zivkovic had to pay for his goalless start to the season with a place on the bench.
Megamisser El Messaoudi
With just seven goals in the first nine rounds, Emmen has been the least-scoring Eredivisie season and scoring was also a major problem against Volendam. A three-on-one in front of Volendam’s goal was screwed up and Ahmed El Messaoudi missed two big chances.

First El Messaoudi shot from close range and then he slipped the ball not into the empty goal but into the hands of Volendam keeper Filip Stankovic, who also saved a nice shot from Mark Diemers. There were no goals in the first half.

On the other hand, Volendam was only sporadically dangerous. After the break, Volendam coach Wim Jonk brought fresh energy with Achraf Douiri and Walid Ould-Chikh and the guests came out better. In the 64th minute, Ould-Chikh cut himself free after injuring his brother Bilal and gave Volendam the lead with his left.
Three minutes later everything was fine again. El Messaoudi made up for his mistakes before the break by delivering a cross from Rui Mendes. With chances for Emmen substitute Zivkovic and Mohamed Bouchouari, it remained exciting well into injury time, but no more goals were scored at Oude Meerdijk.
