Sports doctor Larry Nassar (59), who is serving a multi-year sentence in a US prison in Florida, has been stabbed by an inmate, according to a media report.

According to two sources close to the AP, the incident happened on Sunday. The attacker is said to have attacked the former sports doctor from behind and then stabbed him “several times” in the back and chest. Nassar’s condition is said to be stable again.

It is not the first time that the convicted sex offender has been attacked. During his trial, a victim’s father attempted to assault the doctor, but was stopped in time.

Nassar – sports physician for the United States Gymnastics Federation from 1996 to 2014 – had sexually assaulted several young gymnasts during his time with the federation. He had been sentenced to 175 years in prison for assault in more than 250 counts. Among Nassar’s victims was American superstar Simone Biles (26). (par)
