The investigations into the Christophe Galtier (56) case seem to have gained momentum. The PSG coach was arrested in Nice on suspicion of discrimination, prosecutor Xavier Bonhomme told AFP news agency. The racism scandal is likely to affect Galtier more than he assumed.
In April, a preliminary investigation was opened against Galtier over allegations of “discrimination based on race or religious belief”. It’s about Galtier’s time at OGC Nice.
Galtier denied making racist and anti-Muslim comments about players during his time at Nice. These appear from an e-mail that former Nice sports director Julien Fournier (49) would have sent to representatives of club owner Ineos.
Galtier has taken legal action
After the allegations were published, the prosecutor’s office officially launched an investigation. Galtier, for his part, had taken legal action for libel.
Galtier moved from Nice to the French capital last summer. He had led PSG to the championship, but had failed with his star ensemble in the Champions League at Bayern Munich. The replacement of the coach is not yet official, but the divorce is obviously imminent. Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has named ex-Spain coach Luis Enrique (53) as his successor. (nsa/AFP)
