This man is really in a good mood. Mountain bike star Lars Forster (29) steps onto the podium again a week after his colossal feat of winning the World Cup in Leogang (Austria). This time at the European Championships in Poland, where cross-country running is part of the European Games.

Forster runs up front the entire race and takes silver. But even Forster in his brilliant form is powerless against the decisive start of Vlad Dascalu (25) on the last lap.

Strange TV name display as “Lars Josef Forster”

As a Romanian, the new European champion is an exotic in the mountain bike world, but he chose to be Spaniard and is considered a great cycling talent. Now, in the absence of stars like Nino Schurter, Mathias Flückiger or Tom Pidcock, Dascalu takes his first title among active players – and prevents “Lars Josef Forster” from winning the third European Championship gold.

Lars Joseph? The St. Gallen wins European Championship silver under what appears to be a new name. Forster is the only driver whose middle name is also shown on all TV screens of the interim results. Funny. Even the Eurosport Live commentator keeps mentioning Forster’s middle name, although the Swiss never appears as Lars Josef in any rankings.

“Josef” is not an issue with his Thömus team either. Not even on the bike that Forster has only been riding since this season. The man from St. Gallen switched from Schurter’s Scott racing team to the Bern team, where he had to get used to a completely different two-wheeler after many years.

“No part on my new bike is the same as before,” said Forster ahead of the season opener. “But I felt comfortable on the new material from the very first practice.” EM silver is the latest proof of this.
