Werner Edelmann is dead, reports the Basler Zeitung. On Monday night, the former FCB chairman fell asleep shortly before midnight at Adullam Hospital in Riehen BS. He turned 81 years old.
In the autumn of 2002, Edelmann took over as president of FC Basel. Gigi Oeri paid, he solved the internal problems. During this time FCB celebrated two championship titles (2004, 2005) and the cup victory (2003). In 2006 Edelmann handed over his position to Oeri.
Most recently, Edelmann lived with his wife Barbara on the horse farm they shared in Wallbach AG in the Fricktal Valley. Three years ago, Edelmann became seriously ill from Corona, from which he barely recovered. He recently broke his ribs. Now he sleeps forever.
Edelman leaves behind three children and seven grandchildren. (mom)
