Lionel Messi is eagerly awaited in Miami.

The bang was big, the euphoria in the American professional league MLS is enormous. Lionel Messi (35) is coming to Inter Miami from the summer and will be the new attraction of Major League Soccer. Of course, this cannot be cheap, after all, Messi turned down an offer of half a billion francs from Saudi Arabia with the change.

The exact amount can only be speculated about, but some details about the payment method have been leaked. The usually well-informed online portal The Athletic speculates that the Argentinian will have to get part of his wages out of AppleTV television money. The tech giant has signed a ten-year exclusive contract with the league, reportedly worth around 2.3 billion francs.

Adidas also pays

As the second main sponsor of the MLS, Adidas must also contribute. It is rumored that the superstar gets a share of Adidas’ total earnings. Adidas has an exclusive deal with the league, all kits are designed and made by the Germans, just like the official match ball. Messi has a lifetime contract with the German sports equipment manufacturer.

This makeshift stadium is where Miami currently plays: DRVxPNK Stadium.

Exactly how wages will be distributed and how much Inter Miami will have to contribute is unclear. However, the revenue from admissions will certainly increase, Miami is currently building its Freedom Park, where a stadium is to be built. Meanwhile, ticket prices for this season and possible matches with Messi have skyrocketed, from $30 to nearly $500.

The Florida franchise has only played in the MLS since 2018, is currently bottom of the table and is looking for a new coach after Phil Neville (46) had to resign his post. Not an easy situation that Messi, who is used to success, encounters. (nsa)
