The federal government can spend those 25 million between 2025 and 2029 on recurring major events with international allure. This refers to the Ski World Cup races in Wengen BE, Adelboden BE and St. Moritz GR. A removal motion from a minority with different party political backgrounds had no chance in the Council of States on Thursday.
The two chambers have approved CHF 28.65 million to support one-off major sporting events with international allure. The money should also flow from 2025 to 2029 and, for example, benefit the World Ski Championships in Valais in 2027.
Parliament is making a further €18 million available for support measures in the wake of a major event. The loan must go back to the National Council to resolve a minor difference.
