Federal Councilor Viola Amherd (60) met the pope. On Saturday morning, the Valais woman was received at the Vatican for an audience with Pope Francis (86). This was announced by the press office of the Holy See.
Amherd tweeted after the meeting that Switzerland values bilateral relations with the Vatican. The focus of the exchange with Pope Francis was mutual bilateral relations, the war in Ukraine, the Swiss Guard and also the concerns of Swiss Catholics.
Swearing in of new Swiss Guard
The Vice President of the Federal Council had traveled to Rome on Saturday to participate in the swearing-in ceremony of 23 new Swiss Guards, together with the President of the National Council, Martin Candinas (42) and the President of the Council of States, Brigitte Häberli-Koller (64).
