In Zurich, left-wing extremists attack the police and in Basel, football fans injure security forces. In recent months, riots across Switzerland have become a major problem. Right at this time, Switzerland is getting two new top security directors: Karin Kayser-Frutschi (56, center) from Nidwalden and Alain Ribaux (61, FDP) from Neuchâtel are chairing the conference of cantonal justice and police directors.
The two have been in office since Thursday and after a few days Kayser-Frutchi speaks plain language. She advocates uniform handling of demonstrations throughout Switzerland. «Today every canton and every city is looking for itself. Sometimes a request for a demonstration is approved, sometimes not. Sometimes with conditions, sometimes not,” she told “CH Media”. That wouldn’t work. “We also owe our police officers a clear attitude on the street.”
“Look where the suffering is greatest”
She also criticizes the handling of violence at football matches: “Some approval authorities want to act with zero tolerance, others are more cautious and emphasize the economic benefit of football matches,” she told “CH Media”. She calls on the cantons to look for common grounds. “Now we have to see who is ready to move and where the suffering is greatest.”
In fact, cantons, cities and clubs have recently been unable to agree on stricter measures such as personalized tickets – although Minister of Sports Viola Amherd (60) also insists on this.
Well organized clubs
Kayser-Frutschi is not the only one who is annoyed. As Blick reported, harsh words are used behind closed doors in police circles and in the Amherd department. The clubs in particular are targeted. They are extremely well organized. “If something doesn’t suit them, they’re firing all cylinders and publicly shaming unwanted opinions.” You had to experience that, reports an insider.
It is precisely these clubs that Kayser-Frutschi is counting on: She hopes for initiatives from the football clubs. “In hockey, the clubs themselves also implemented the measures. Unfortunately, that hasn’t happened in football so far,” she told CH Media.
