Increasingly popular: Compared to 2015, e-bikes are used more in Switzerland.

People in Switzerland spend an average of 80 minutes a day all over the country, both on bicycle and on foot. They cover a distance of 30 kilometers. The fact that this distance has never been this short since 1994 is due to Covid-19.

The Federal Bureau of Statistics (FSO) and the Federal Bureau for Spatial Development (ARE) published the 2021 traffic microcount on Thursday. The study was postponed for a year due to the pandemic.

E-bikes are becoming increasingly popular

The distances traveled in trains decreased more than those in cars. 20.8 of the 30 kilometers per day were driven in the car.

The only mode of transport that has increased in 2021 compared to the 2015 survey is the e-bike. There is now at least one in every fifth household. The number of conventional bicycles has decreased.

The traffic microcount is carried out every five years and, according to the federal services involved, is considered the largest national survey of population mobility. In 2021, about 55,000 people will have been interviewed by telephone. (SDA)
