Swiss psychologists complain to the federal government about the health insurance fund association

The refusal of certain health insurers to bill the services of trainee psychotherapists through supervisors could leave thousands of patients without therapy.

The refusal of certain health insurers to bill the services of trainee psychotherapists through supervisors could leave thousands of patients without therapy.

The Federation of Swiss Psychologists (FSP) has filed a complaint with the Federal Office of Public Health (BAG) against the Santésuisse health insurance association.

The reason: Certain health insurers would refuse to bill the services of psychotherapists in training through supervisors.

Thousands of patients without therapy

This threatened to leave thousands of patients without treatment. In addition, the jobs of hundreds of psychotherapists are at risk, the FSP writes in a statement on Thursday.

The BAG has repeatedly confirmed that the services of the psychotherapist in training are invoiced to the person in charge.

A new layout model is to blame

According to the FSP, the background of the complaint is a new arrangement model that came into effect in the summer of 2022. Since then, psychological psychotherapies have been covered by basic insurance.

The FSP writes that the ability to bill services by a supervising specialist responsible for therapy is an important pillar of the Swiss healthcare system. (SDA)
