Switzerland is not setting up a special fund for the reconstruction of Ukraine. The National Council rejected a corresponding motion from the Finance Committee on Tuesday.

The Grand Chamber rejected the proposal by 111 votes to 71, with five abstentions. In addition to the SVP and FDP, a majority of the center faction also voted against the motion. This is now off the table.

The Federal Council requested rejection

The committee proposal stipulated that contributions to the fund had to be booked on a special basis and not charged to the regular budget. This is also so that support for those in need in other parts of the world is not reduced.

The Federal Council and a minority of the committee requested that the motion be rejected. The state government was of the view that extraordinary accounting was not allowed as it did not involve any contingency. (SDA)
