Since 2001, the heavy vehicle performance-related tax (LSVA) has imposed a toll on trucks and other heavy vehicles over 3.5 tonnes. The revenues of approximately 1.7 billion francs per year are intended to cover the costs of damage to infrastructure caused by heavy traffic and to promote the transfer of freight transport from road to rail.

In order not to slow down the modernization of trucks, the Federal Council is planning financing measures for electric trucks. According to the proposal, these should also be distributed in the lowest tax category. The Federal Council wants to reclassify today’s most environmentally friendly fossil fuel trucks (EURO VI) into the second cheapest category. He wants to strengthen the cost recovery of the LSVA and promote rail transport. (SDA)
