Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis (62) is currently on a long trip to Asia. He wants to visit China, India, Korea and the Philippines.
On Wednesday, Cassis met his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi (70) and Vice President Han Zheng (69) in Beijing. Central to his trip to Asia is the announcement by Federal President Viola Amherd (61) that Switzerland is ready to organize a peace summit in Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Selensky (45) expressed his wish for a peace summit during his visit to Switzerland a few weeks ago. Official Switzerland then announced that it would lend a helping hand in this regard.
However, this summit could lack substance. Russia has already turned a blind eye to the plans. Hope is therefore still pinned on the participation of the Bric states with their proximity to Russia, i.e. Brazil, India, South Africa or China and – outside the Brics – Saudi Arabia. (she/SDA)
