Porsche lifts the curtain on the new Taycan. The model has more range, better charging speeds and even more performance. Can it outperform competitors like the Tesla Model S (checkered)? We dive into the specs.
Of course, specifications don’t say everything about a car. Would you like to read all of Autovisie’s extensive (upcoming) tests? Then subscribe to our (digital) magazine.
The new Porsche Taycan
First of all, the new Porsche Taycan has become significantly faster. From a standstill, the Taycan and Taycan Turbo S sprint to 100 kilometers per hour in 4.8 and 2.4 seconds, respectively. That is 0.6 and 0.4 seconds faster than its predecessor. However, the Tesla Model S Plaid sprints from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in 2.1 seconds.

The regular Porsche Taycan produces 60 kW (82 hp) more than before and the Turbo S produces 140 kW (191 hp) more with launch control. The total output of the Turbo S is 952 hp. This is due, among other things, to a new, more efficient electric motor.
Although the Tesla Model S is faster, the Porsche Taycan has better range on paper. The WLTP range of the new Taycan is a maximum of 678 kilometers, depending on the version. That’s 175 kilometers more than its predecessor. A new water pump, improved heat management and regeneration optimization contribute to better range. On paper, the Model S can travel 652 kilometers as a Long Range.

The Taycan can also charge faster. 800-volt fast charging stations can now be charged with up to 320 kW, which is 70 kW faster than the Tesla and 50 kW more than before. The duration in which the new performance battery can be quickly charged has also been increased. A charging power of 300 kW is maintained for up to five minutes.
In the first generation Porsche Taycan, charging from 10 to 80 percent of battery capacity took 37 minutes at 15 degrees Celsius. On paper, under the same conditions, this now takes 18 minutes. The gross capacity of the battery pack also increased. This was 93 kWh and is now 105 kWh. In addition, the Porsche Taycan has become 15 kilograms lighter and every Taycan now has adaptive air suspension as standard.
Design the new Porsche Taycan
The least drastic adjustments are design related. The headlights are slightly flatter and an illuminated version of the Porsche logo at the rear is now available to order. Furthermore, it looks very similar to its predecessor.
The prices
The updated Taycan can be ordered now and will be available from Dutch dealers in the spring. The prices will be announced shortly. Want to stay up to date with all the latest automotive news? Then subscribe to the free Autovisie newsletter.
