“We have taken note of the new strategy of the last generation, but are not adopting it,” Renovate Switzerland said on Tuesday in response to a request from the Keystone-SDA news agency.

According to the newspaper ‘Bild’, German climate activists want to focus on mass occupations of the streets, disruptive actions at political events and attacks on targets that have a direct link to climate change. The so-called normal citizens, on the other hand, should be left alone.

The Last Generation in Germany and Renovate Switzerland are part of the same network A22 and pursue the same goal: saving lives on earth, according to Renovate Switzerland. However, each campaign works autonomously. The lack of information for the population shows that glue campaigns are still necessary in Switzerland. The movement believes that a climate emergency threatens Switzerland.

“High-profile actions are needed”

That is why Swiss activists do not want to give up the campaigns on the streets. “We continue to need high-profile actions that wake people up and make them aware of the urgency of the climate catastrophe,” writes the resistance campaign with the English name, which started in April 2022.

And further: “We will continue to protest peacefully in the streets until the government takes responsibility and protects our future.”

Last year at Easter, members of Renovate Switzerland disrupted car traffic in front of the Gotthard Tunnel for hours by sticking themselves to the road surface. To attract attention, the movement has also organized actions on the Lorraine Bridge in the city of Bern, on the Hard Bridge in Zurich and on the Mont Blanc Bridge in Geneva. (SDA)
