No surprise given the slogans used by the Liberals. At its delegation meeting in Zug on Saturday, the FDP adopted the yes slogan for the Young Liberals’ pension initiative with 328 votes against, 3 votes against and 2 abstentions. In contrast, the Liberals clearly rejected the initiative for a 13th AHV pension with 323 votes against, 2 votes and 11 abstentions.
During the discussion, Zug FDP cantonal councilor Jill Nussbaumer (31) expressed his surprise at the fact that the political left ‘whitewashed’ the state of the AHV. “But what surprises me even more is that young people are leaving the costs on the shoulders of the next generation.”
Thierry Burkart is critical
The Young Liberals’ pension initiative aims, among other things, to raise the retirement age to 66 by 2032 and then link it to life expectancy. It contradicts the second proposal for a 13th AHV pension, which will also be submitted to a referendum on March 3, 2024. The initiative for 13 instead of just 12 AHV pensions was launched by the Swiss Federation of Trade Unions (SGB) and women’s and pensioners’ organizations.
On the sidelines of the conference, FDP party chairman Thierry Burkart (48) expressed his dissatisfaction with the federal elections in October. A party like the FDP is needed more than ever. “We have to admit that we missed our target,” said the party chairman. The FDP Switzerland had to accept a result it did not want. One reason he mentioned was the ‘Credit Suisse debacle’. This would have had a negative effect on the public’s perception of the party.
Burkart cited the issue of list connections as a further stumbling block. In some places there was criticism that the FDP had thrown its weight behind the SVP. But as a party you have to enter into list connections so as not to be at a disadvantage from the start. According to Burkart, the list connections should be abolished. He would have introduced this in Parliament accordingly. (SDA/lazy)
